Day 26: Richibucto/Rexton, NB

We were given an extended time to speak this morning at Victory Baptist Church in Rexton. I started from the command in Joshua 1 to “be strong and courageous”. Afterwards there was a fellowship meal and then prayer for the community and church. I intended to use the rest of the afternoon to rest, but got too busy to ever actually lay down. In the evening we were scheduled at the last minute to speak at the French Baptist church in Richibucto. Yesterday Kevin had met one of their members in town and been told that he couldn’t be speaking at their church because they don’t have an evening service. Well, this time they did.

Although we had a good time of sharing and encouragement, the crucial event of the day was when Pastor Michel at the French church asked if we would like to go share the Gospel with people on the waterfront afterwards. It turned out that tonight was the big fireworks show for the last night of Richibucto’s “Scallop Festival”. So there were lots of people around. We divided up into four groups with bags of New Testaments and Scripture portions and then spread out. Scripture was probably handed out to around 150 people, and there were several opportunities to discuss the Gospel to varying degrees with people. It was definitely one of the highlights of everything we’ve done, especially seeing the boys develop greater confidence in sharing the Good News. Pastor Michel pointed out that this was good practice for when the church will be assisting the Louisiana group do outreach during the Acadian Congress in August.
